Many boasts are made in the dance music world about a DJ's ability to make new compositions by combining records, but mixing is generally just a way to get from one track to another. Chicago's Mark Grant makes a good case for the DJ as artist. Using three turntables, he creates new tracks by combining acappella versions and instrumentals, a technique that requires serious skill. It's rare for deep house DJs to take this approach, but he pulls it off with finesse. His track selection is on par with his technique, making this one of the best deep house mix CDs on the market.
